UKMQ's support a number of different charities through activities such as Virtual Runs. As one of our primary aims is to empower women, we felt it was important to support charities that touched on similar issues. We'd love to hear your ideas of how to raise more funds for charity! Likewise, if you know of a particular charity that you feel suits the MQ ethos, we'd love to hear from you.

The idea of Virtual Runs stemmed from the group. An MQ went out for her usual daytime run but found herself the subject of torment and abuse from a group of teens. Encouraged by her fellow MQ's and their similar experiences, she went out again only to encounter the same negative abuse. It was quickly decided to set up a run in her honour, to encourage her and women everywhere to never let others get in the way of your goals. Some women find it easier to run in the dark when no-one can see them. We encouraged MQ's to get out in the sunshine and be proud of what you're doing! The "Run in the Sun" was born.

We'd like to thank the amazing work of MQ Ginger Lacey - without her, these runs wouldn't happen.

UKMQ Virtual Runs So Far...

Run in the Sun - A Mile in Her Shoes

Our hugely successful summer virtual "run in the sun" raised over £760 for the charity A Mile in Her Shoes, a charity that "helps women find their feet through running". They encourage women at risk of homelessness through running but also work on self-esteem and confidence issues. They also provide relevant running clothing and rely solely on volunteers and fundraising. Check out their website to see the wonderful work they do:

Beat The Winter Blues - Rosa UK

After the sell-out success of the virtual "Run in the Sun" we have created the Winter version - "Beat The Winter Blues" to make sure us MQ's pull together through the winter season. We chose to fundraise for Rosa UK - a fantastic charity with a vision of equality and justice for women and girls in the UK. We felt this was particularly in line with the MQ ethos, and would love for you to find out more about them. Their goals are to create a society in which women are equal, safe from fear and violence, enjoy good health and achieve economic justice. Please, take a look at their site here: Mudd Queens raised over £2,700!!!

#MQWorkForIt - Girls Out Loud

With the winter always being a bit of a tough one for women especially, those shorter and colder days. The challenge was set to run either 5 or 10 miles per week, which for most culminated in their Tough Guy race at the end of January. Such an amazing response, MQs that couldn't run, took to the bike, the pool, and the weights to smash out the challenge. Our third charity choice was Girls Out Loud - an awesome organisation that champions teenage girls through various programmes: day events all about self-esteem and confidence; the Big sister mentoring programme; intervention programmes; and workshops on body confidence, relationships, , and online safety.

UK Mudd Queens raised a whopping £3,978.81!!
